One of Italy’s most prestigious engineering firms has produced a diverse line of motor cars, bicycles, industrial vehicles, and aircraft engines. In the course of its long history, the Edoardo Bianchi company represented one of the most typical examples of the process of industrialization that began to transform Italian society towards the end of the last century.

The company first saw the light as a simple workshop opened by Edoardo Bianchi in Milan’s via Nirone. From those humble beginnings the firm gradually developed to embrace larger and ever more complex sectors of the mechanical engineering in-dustry: from bicycles to motorcycles, to cars and commercial vehicles, until finally it became a major industrial concern.

left an indelible mark in each one of these sectors and the story of the firm is inextricably linked with legendary figures such as Tazio Nuvolari and Fausto Coppi.

Of the Edoardo Bianchi of those days, after many vi-cissitudes, only the bicycle division is still very much alive and kicking, while the motorcycles and the cars are now cult objects eagerly sought-after by enthusiasts and collectors.

The fruit of years spent searching for material, much of which has been lost, this volume – complete with over 400 pictures – breathes new life into an extremely important page of Italian industrial history and it is the author’s hope that it will serve as a reliable source book for all those who, perbaps for the first time, decide to visit the multivarious and fascinating world of Bianchi.

Text in Italian and English. Hardback in generally very good condition with good dust jacket.
