Description

1909 first edition of rare book. Hardback in good condition, some marking to first blank pages but otherwise very clean. ‘Tasteful’ library sticker to inside cover does not detract. Original tissue inset to title page complete and in good condition. Published without cover. Gilted lettering and illustration to front cover and spine. Some bumping to cover corners and sides, small tear and scuffing to top of spine.

Translated by J. Parker Hayes. (Grant Richards). Signor Scarfoglio and his companions started from the office of the Matin in Paris on January 28th and reached America on February 6th. The journey across America occupies about half the volume. There is the usual story of accidents, breakdowns, and hardships. Not the least notable thing is the extraordinary enthusiasm among the Italian “exiles” which the affair excited.
