Description

Story of the first motor race to be held in Great Britain and Ireland – in 1903. The 327-mile race took place around a circuit centred on Athy, Co. Kildare.

It featured the first US team to compete abroad, and was won at 49 mph by Belgian ‘Red Devil’ Camille Jenatzy. James Joyce featured the event in his After the Race story in Dubliners.The world land speed record was broken in the supporting Phoenix Park Speed Trials at 84 mph.
